I deleted my Snapchat Account

I loved snapchat. Whatsapp was a pretty good introduction to the social media world, Instagram was amazing in the 2000s, but Snapchat was a whole new app. It’s features and cute avatars, clickable snaps from people’s daily lives, kept me hooked through the day.

The rise of Snapchat

Once upon a time, when Snapchat was newly launched, it represented something fresh and different. Heck, even Facebook was something old now, Snapchat was the new trend. My friends urged me to give them my “Snap" but I sheepishly replied that I didn’t own one.

So create an account! Snapchat is so much fun!!

Were the replies from my friends. I shrugged them off, as I wasn’t interested in social media at that time.

I tried another friend group, but everyone was so into Snapchat, I had to download it.

So I did just that.

Turns out, it was really fun messaging my friends on it’s interactive cool layout. The avatar that you could tap and it would resurface, the messages that you could save by a single tap, everything was bright and shiny.

The world of streaks

Until it got to the “streaks” part. Turns out, a fire isn’t just a fire. It’s a “streak"

And what’s a streak? It’s to send a snap everyday to your friends and the score would increase day by day.

For the record, I hate people nagging me. About anything and everything in particular.

Anyways, after persistent headaches my friends persuaded me to start a streak with them.

And I did just that. (I know I was spineless)

I’m a pretty monotonous person, I like my routines and comfort zones. I like eating the same thing over and over again.

Heck, I like wearing the same pattern of clothes from my favourite place.

So I started sending streaks which consisted pretty much of my cat, darkness or some emoji.

People got tired of my snaps.

Now I was still the bad person huh?

I downloaded the app, started my streaks, made my avatar wear clothes, watched stories of different avatars hanging out with mine, but I’m still the bad guy?

Seems fair though, if someone sent me the same thing over and over again, I’d be annoyed too.

Anyways, this happened but I kind of started using Snapchat as an accountability buddy (Yeah, I’m that kind of a person)

It was like a challenge for me, especially during covid.

If I manage to keep myself accountable by sending snaps daily, I might just succeed in life.

Guess what?

It didn’t work. I was sick to the core of people sending me the insides of their cars, clothes, watches etc.

I guess Snapchat is an amazing app for people who like to snoop around people’s lives.

I couldn’t care less if someone went to Dubai or Africa.

So I deleted it.

I’m glad I did it. I still get nagged by my friends whom I supposedly left in the “dark" (pun intended)

Well, they were the ones who didn’t like my snaps anyway.

Goodbye Snapchat, you won’t be missed by yours truly.
